VP Sara calls for stronger protections for women’s rights

Ensuring that every woman and child is protected, heard, and empowered to thrive lies at the core of the fight for women’s rights, Vice President Sara Duterte said.

As the world celebrates Women’s Month this March, Duterte emphasized that the struggle for gender equality is far from over, pointing to the ongoing threats of violence against women and children, as well as human trafficking, which continue to endanger lives and dignity.

“The fight for women’s rights is not just about closing economic and political gaps—it is about ensuring that every woman and child is protected, heard, and allowed to thrive,” Duterte said in a statement.

She called on all sectors of society to push for stronger laws that provide better access to justice for women, “support survivors, and challenge the deeply rooted norms that enable violence.”

“Every sector of society—government, private institutions, civil society, and individuals—must work together to break the cycle of abuse and exploitation,” Duterte said.

The Vice President also urged Filipinos to take part in creating a society where women and girls can live without fear and freely pursue their aspirations.

“Together, let us build a future where no woman fears for her safety, where every girl can pursue her dreams without fear of violence, and where equality is not just a goal, but a lived reality,” Duterte said.
