President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Saturday marked International Women’s Day by calling to recognize women’s resilience and impact in the country’s history and highlighting their role in shaping the nation’s progress.
In a statement, the President acknowledged the struggles and achievements of generations of women, from historical figures such as babaylans and katipuneras to modern-day frontliners, professionals, and leaders.
“Being a woman requires resilience and strength,” Mr. Marcos said.
“Many of the developments we witness today can be attributed to the innumerable contributions of women across generations who fought, struggled and advocated for various noble causes,” he added.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting women’s rights and ensuring their continued progress, vowing to oppose any threats to their advancement.
“The Bagong Pilipinas we are building will always advocate for women’s rights and vigorously oppose anything threatening their progress,” Marcos said.
He also emphasized the importance of uplifting women to inspire future generations, calling them an “unshakable force that nurtures, perseveres and redefines.”
Marcos concluded his message by honoring women’s sacrifices and contributions: “We will never grow weary of retelling the stories of remarkable women so we can inspire a new generation of young girls to make their mark on society.”
International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8, coinciding with National Women’s Month in the Philippines.
