The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) reminded the public to carefully check what they buy online.
This comes after two men were arrested for illegally selling chainsaws online in Libertad, Butuan City.
According to PNP-ACG Spokesperson, Lt. Wallen Arancillo, the arrested individuals posted their heavy-duty chainsaws for sale for P3,000 to P7,500.
With the help of informants, the ACG conducted entrapment operations leading to the arrest of the online sellers.
Arancillo also reminded that those who want to sell chainsaws are required to obtain a permit from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Authorities cited that illegal loggers can use these portable handheld devices for their deforestation activities, which will affect the environment.
The ACG is still investigating the origin and legitimacy of the chainsaws sold by those arrested.
