Meet your legends: MPL Philippines Season 15 returns Friday

After a long wait, MPL Philippines is set to return with explosive ML:BB action with some new faces joining the league and returning teams looking to defend their pride and honor in the country’s most premier esports league competition.

MPL Philippines Season 15 opening week is scheduled on Friday, with former Blacklist International flag-bearers facing each othe, the new Saudi Arabia-based organization Twisted Minds against heavy PH favorites Aurora Gaming for the first game.

Other matches worth noting are TNC Pro Team and Yawi attempting to score an upset against M6 Champions ONIC PH, championship-caliber teams Team Falcons and Team Liquid Philippines facing against each other, and the game of the week–a golden rematch of last year’s MPL Season 14 finals: ONIC PH vs. Aurora Gaming. 

In case you missed the roster reveals, here are the eight teams vying for the glory and title of being the ML:BB Philippines’ strongest:

ONIC PH (ONIC)

Fresh from their Snapdragon Pro Series APAC S6 finals sweep against ONIC ID, M6 champions ONIC PH is looking to prove their super dominance, as the Super Family defend their pride and extend their #itsONICtime momentum, not only as the country’s strongest, but also as a world-class powerhouse in ML:BB.

AURORA GAMING (RORA)

Learning from their experiences last season, growing PH favorites Aurora Gaming is eager on etching their names as one of MPL PH’s powerhouse teams. With the roster from last season unchanged, fans and enthusiasts are looking forward to seeing this team’s competitive ceiling

TEAM FALCONS (FLCN)

As the M5 Champion roster back then from AP BREN is now playing under a new banner, Team Falcons’ sights are set to soar in the competition. With Coach Ducky not joining the team in its new organization, members are looking to create a new legacy to for the newly joined Saudi Arabian organization.

TEAM LIQUID PHILIPPINES (TLPH) 

From one top-caliber gold laner to another, Team Liquid Philippines reinforced themselves with some serious backup, as former champion and Filipino Sniper Oheb joins the team starting this season. With this boosted roster, TLPH appears to be one of the darkhorses to win it all this season.

SMART OMEGA (OMG)

Falling short during their playoff run, Ch4knu and Smart Omega are looking to bounce back this season with familiar faces and a new sixth man to reinforce their MPL campaign. With so much potential yet to be tapped on this roster, the team is very much capable to keep up and win against stronger teams.

AP BREN (APBR)

A seasoned and decorated organization in the MPL PH scene with a revamped roster — a mix of veteran and championship experience, AP BREN is looking to return to the spotlight with a new team, with lots to prove — #BrenLangMalakas.

TNC PRO TEAM (TNC)

With a lot of teams’ eyes on this team caused by Yawi’s return to MPL PH, TNC Pro Team is ready to take up the challenge, with new names gracing the scene. Will this team’s flame fan out or will they burn out their critics’ animosity to prove their seat at the top?

TWISTED MINDS (TWIS)

One of the two new organizations to join the league, Twisted Minds is deemed as the underdog this season. With this roster consisting of returning players, they’re looking to prove that their chemistry, experience and competitive drive are enough to compete against the country’s best teams. 

  • Coaches: Bonchan, Eson
  • EXP lane: Jeymz
  • Jungler: MP the King
  • Mid lane: Hadjizy
  • Gold lane: Outplayed
  • Roam: Escalera (Captain)
  • 6th Man: Sensui

The tournament will feature BO3 matches, with the rankings to be determined by points according to game wins. Local and cross-region mid-season transfers between teams are also allowed, with free agents to go first through MDL PH before entering MPL PH. Regular season matches are more vital this season, as the top two teams are set to have highest advantages in the playoffs. 

All of the games are to be played at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati, and will have an offline broadcast and online stream setup to be available on the official MPL Philippines and ML:BB channels. The regular season is set to run for eight weeks with eight teams competing for a combined prize pool of $150,000 (or over P8,000.000) and the title of “King of the Philippines”.
