PBBM joins Muslim Pinoys in welcoming Ramadan

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. joined Islamic communities in the Philippines and around the world on Friday in welcoming the Holy Month of Ramadan, calling it a time for reflection, spiritual growth, and unity.

“This sacred season marks the revelation of the Qur’an to Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), a period for personal reflection, spiritual growth, and a renewed commitment to faith for our beloved Muslim brothers and sisters,” Mr. Marcos said in a statement.

Ramadan will begin on Sunday, March 2. Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and is celebrated during the first three days of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar. The announcement of the date will also be announced by the mufti based on the result of the moon sighting at that time.

It is observed through fasting, prayer, and acts of charity, which President Marcos described as essential to fostering solidarity and strengthening a sense of belonging.

The President emphasized that the season serves as a powerful catalyst for social transformation by instilling discipline and gratitude.

“It is a time that calls us to reflect deeply on our purpose, extend kindness to those in need, and uplift those around us,” he said.

Mr. Marcos also highlighted the values of humility and dedication to faith, urging Filipinos to find strength in these principles as the country works toward collective progress.

“May this guide us in our thrust towards collective progress for us to reach the light of hope that shines brightly for all. I wish everyone a meaningful and solemn Ramadan,” he said.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is a sacred period observed by Muslims worldwide. It is marked by fasting from dawn to sunset, with prayers and acts of charity, all aimed at fostering spiritual discipline and empathy for the less fortunate.
