FILIPINO-MOROCCAN Yacine Guermali broke his own Philippine national record in the 3,000-meter indoor race at the Virginia Tech Invitational at Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Virginia recently.
The 25-year-old Guermali settled for third place with a time of 8:02.62, behind George Coutti and Declan Rymer.
Coutti checked in at 7:52.29, while Rymer reached the finish line in 7:59.07.
Guermali held the previous record of 8:12.41 he set back in 2023 at the Spokane Indoor Challenge.
Last year, Guermali won the gold medals in the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter outdoor races of the Philippine National Open.
It was the first time that Guermali joined a local competition in the Philippines.
And he is expected to return this year to defend his crowns.
