Senator Win Gatchalian urged the National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT) to enhance its focus on high-quality educational programming for children.
Despite the recent launch of new child-friendly shows, Gatchalian emphasized the need for the NCCT to adhere to its primary mission of promoting educational content.
“In an age where children are constantly focused on their gadgets, it is important for them to have alternative forms of entertainment while learning, such as watching meaningful television shows,” Gatchalian said.
“The National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT) has not created or delivered any new children’s television programs for three years, from 2018 to 2020,” he added.
He previously introduced Proposed Senate Resolution No. 1047, advocating for a thorough review of the NCCT’s objectives.
He expressed concern that the NCCT has not effectively utilized the National Endowment Fund for Children’s Television, which aims to support local programming.
The senator also pointed out that the NCCT lacks clear guidelines for managing this fund, potentially hindering its ability to deliver suitable content for children.
