The Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) emphasized its intent to continue causing disruption and violence by declaring that there will be no holiday truce, National Security Adviser Eduardo Año stated on Thursday.
“This simply reflects their persistent commitment to violence and armed struggle, further isolating themselves from the Filipino people’s aspirations for peace and security,” he said in a statement.
However, Año dismissed the insurgents’ announcement as an “empty declaration,” noting that they have been reduced to a single weakened guerrilla front.
He explained that this significant decline has rendered them incapable of conducting major operations against security forces or effectively recruiting new members.
“This dramatic decline is the result of sustained government efforts under the banner of NTF-ELCAC (National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict) and supported by communities to neutralize insurgency and foster inclusive development,” Año said.
He also stressed that peace-building requires sincerity, and the actions of the CPP-NPA-NDF have consistently demonstrated a lack of sincerity and commitment to peace.
“We call on the Filipino people to unite in rejecting violence and supporting programs that promote peace and development. No ideology rooted in violence and armed struggle will be allowed to threaten the progress and aspirations of the Filipino people,” he stated.
Año added that the government will continue focused military operations to eliminate CPP-NPA-NDF remnants so that the Filipino people can enjoy a peaceful and orderly holiday season this December.
