MMDA sends team to Rizal for humanitarian mission

A team from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has been deployed to Rizal to assist those severely affected by Super Typhoon Carina.

According to MMDA General Manager Usec. Procopio Lipana, the team is composed of well-trained disaster response personnel who were previously involved in rescue and retrieval operations.

The deployment was made upon the recommendation of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) to provide additional assistance to the province.

The MMDA team is also responsible for setting up water purifiers in communities with limited or no supply of potable water.

The solar-powered water purifier units have the capacity to filter 180 gallons of water per hour. Lipana mentioned the MMDA team also brought tents and equipment.

The province experienced widespread flooding and damage to livelihood and infrastructure due to heavy downpour. This led thousands of residents to flee their homes and take shelter in designated evacuation centers.

Consequently, local government units (LGUs) declared a State of Calamity, particularly in the Municipalities of Cainta, San Mateo, Taytay, Morong, Rodriguez, and Angono.
