MMDA: No number coding on Aug. 21 Monday, Ninoy Aquino Day

There will be no number coding on Monday, Aug. 21, Ninoy Aquino Day,
according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

“The implementation of the expanded number coding scheme is suspended
on Monday, August 21, 2023, a special non-working holiday
commemorating the death anniversary of former senator Benigno ‘Ninoy’
Aquino Jr,” the MMDA stated in its advisory.

On this date, vehicles with license plates ending in 1 and 2 covered
by coding every Monday can travel on the main streets of Metro Manila
during the said coding hours, it added.

The scheme was devised to keep vehicles out of major thoroughfares on
certain days based on the last digit of the license plate.

Under the scheme, vehicles with license plates ending in 1 and 2 are
prohibited on Monday, 3 and 4 on Tuesday, 5 and 6 on Wednesday, 7 and
8 on Thursday, 9 and 0 on Friday during the said coding hours.

The implementation is from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. from
Monday to Friday, except during holidays.
