AFP fights with about 200 BIFF members in North Cotabato

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is battling with about two hundred (200) suspected members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Pigcawayan, North Cotabato.

The rebels allegedly took control of at least three areas in the municipality.

At past 5 am on Wednesday, suspected BIFF members reportedly took control of an elementary school.

The armed men had reportedly taken some civilians as hostages.

As of noon time, firefighting is ongoing and explosions are heard in the areas where conflict unfolded.

At the 'Mindanao Hour' press briefing in Malacanang, AFP Spokesperson Restituto Padilla said, BIFF is just seeking attention.

He reported that the situation in under control by the military.

Padilla also stated, the fighting in North Cotabato has no link to the siege in Marawi City.
