THE National Electrification Authority says the public can expect improved transparency and accountability within the agency.
At a news conference, Administrator Edgardo Masongsong said the a gency will take take measure to ensure that power supply agreements and related contracts entered into by electric co-ops are “legal and aboveboard.”
The agency is “focused on ensuring that all dealings of the electric cooperatives are fair and transparent, and reflect the administration’s commitment to implement pro-people reforms,” he said.
“These efforts are consistent with the directives of President Rodrigo Duterte and Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, who want us to prioritize the welfare and interests of power consumers,” he added.
He said they have formulated policies operationalizing the existing guidelines for the competitive selection process of the power supply agreements of electric cooperatives.
“This is necessary to ensure electric cooperatives are observing appropriate procurement procedures, including transparent and competitive bidding in the conduct of their operations,” he noted.
He vowed to fight corruption and restore the faith of the people in the government.
“We believe such would deter contract rigging, and foster efficient, transparent and public competition in the power supply procurement of the electric cooperatives, thereby lowering the costs of operations and ultimately, benefiting power consumers,” he said.
