State of calamity up over Surigao del Norte

Surigao del Norte has been placed under a state of calamity.

The province was hit by a magnitude 6.7 earthquake on Friday night last week.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) reports, the number of fatalities due to the tremor stands at eight, while 205 were injured.

Over 500 families were displaced in 13 towns.

PDRRMC is conducting stress debriefing in communities where many people still fear the occurences of aftershocks.

Since Friday, 178 aftershocks have jolted Surigao del Norte.

15 of them were felt by residents.
