Cold comfort

Concepcion Building and Industrial Solutions (BIS) recently urged employers to ensure their employees’ thermal comfort, noting that this can translate into energy savings for the business. Rajan Komarasu, group director of Concepcion BIS, said high temperatures can affect employees’ productivity. “Aside from ambient air temperature, we need to factor in radiant heat, humidity, and air speed—all these on top of the building occupants’ metabolic rate and clothing,” he explained. “Aiming for employees’ thermal comfort can result in a range of advantages, from better relationships and collaboration, higher employee morale and productivity, lower electricity costs, to having a smaller building carbon footprint.” The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services (PAGASA) recently warned of hotter temperatures year-round.
