Binay: I’ll find jobs for 12m in 6 years

United Nationalist Alliance standard-bearer Vice President Jejomar Binay on Sunday vowed to create two million new jobs each year or a total of 12-million jobs by the time he steps down in 2022, if he is elected president.

This can be done by setting aside seven percent of the country’s gross domestic product per annum for infrastructure development, opening the country to more investors and ending government underspending, Binay said.

More than 17,000 positions ranging from president to town councilors will be contested when the Philippines holds national elections on May 9, 2016. “We will spend at least P950 billion to P1 trillion every year for infrastructure projects. Government spending will not only spur economic activity, it will also create jobs. Government will be one of the biggest employers in the country,” Binay said.

Binay said he will bank on his experience as mayor of Makati, the country’s financial capital, in implementing job-generating measures.

“We did it in Makati. It will be done nationwide,” he said.

He recalled that during his stint as Makati mayor, he took steps to make the city more competitive to attract more investments.

“We created tens of thousands of jobs, provided free education and health care. We were able to do so because we collected taxes, used it for the welfare of the people, and moved Makati forward,” Binay said.

Meanwhile, Binay vowed that his administration would be committed to uplifting the lives of every Filipino and respecting the value of life.

“I have dedicated my life to fighting for the poor: as a human rights lawyer during Martial Law, as mayor of Makati and as your vice president. My presidency will be one that respects and upholds the dignity of women, children and the marginalized,” he said in a statement after addressing the pro-Catholic El Shaddai movement in Parañaque City.

Earlier, pro-life party-list groups Buhay Partylist and Ang Pro-Life and other similar organizations such as the Servants’ Community, Courage Philippines and Pro-Life Philippines Foundationannounced that they supported the presidential bid of Binay. Buhay is the party-list of El Shaddai.
